Activity Monitor If you have Activity Monitor active on your Mac you can quit a stubborn app from within it. Dive into Activity Monitor, find the name of the app you wish to Force Quit (it likely shows up in red). Select it, tap the x button at top left of Activity Monitor window and you’ll be asked if you want to Force Quit the application. Press these three keys together: Option, Command, and Esc (Escape). Or choose Force Quit from the Apple menu  in the upper-left corner of your screen. (This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC.)

Then select the app in the Force Quit window and click Force Quit.

I moved the Firefox app from my Applications to the trash. Does this uninstall it? My hope is that it would and I could just reinstall it. I have yet to download it again.

It uninstalls the app but its data is kept in your Library/Application Support/Firefox folder. That's where your profiles (preferences), bookmarks, etc. are located.


I have also had to Force Quit Microsoft Word several times. This is my main concern.


I believe this is a different problem unrelated to Firefox. Does it work sometimes and not others? Hard to analyze without some context.


Have you installed any other software recently?


Could experiment and see how things behave by using another account.
