How To Move Download File Into Finder Mac

Copy, Move files or folders on a Mac.

Hi,
I'm new to MAC OS, so please be gentle if I'm being a noob here.
I'm trying to move files between folders but I can't seem to do it. When i drag and drop it just copies the file/folder I was holding.
I've tried dragging and dropping with some key combination (alt, command and shift), but nothing seems to work. I've searched on the web, and found that drag and drop + command was supposed to work, but it's not.
How can I work this out? Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Pedro
