The Find My app makes it easy to locate your Apple devices and keep up with friends and family. It works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac — even if your missing devices are offline. And your privacy is protected every step of the way.
You can find App Clips from places in the real world through NFC tags 13 and QR codes, and you can also launch them from Safari, Maps, and Messages. The places where you can launch App Clips are immediately recognizable thanks to Apple‑designed App Clip. Select Find My Mac, then click Options. If you see a Details button, you need to set up Find My. Turn any of the following on or off: Find My Mac: Turning this option on allows you to locate your Mac if you misplace it, and protect the information on it. Once you have iCloud Photos enabled on your Mac, do the same on your iPhone. Go to Settings iCloud Photos, then switch on iCloud Photo Library or My Photo Stream, depending on how you want.
Locate iPhone or iPad Backups on a Mac. On Mac OS X, you can find iPhone or iPad backups created by iTunes (macOS 10.14 or earlier) or Finder (in macOS 10.15 or later) in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync. Each backup is stored in a separate folder named with a long string of random letters and numbers.

Play a sound to
find your device.

Display a message on your lost device.
If your device goes missing, put it in Lost Mode to lock it immediately and start tracking its location. You can also display a message with a contact number on your device’s Lock Screen, so whoever finds it can call you without accessing the rest of its information.
Erase it with ease.
Worried that your device has fallen into the wrong hands? You may want to erase it remotely to delete your personal data and restore your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, or Mac to its factory settings. If you retrieve it, you can restore it from your iCloud backup.

Lock it down. Automatically.
Activation Lock is designed to prevent anyone else from using or selling your device.* When you enable Find My on your device, Activation Lock is turned on automatically. Your Apple ID and password will then be required before anyone can erase your device or reactivate it.
You can even find devices that are offline.
If your missing device can’t connect to the internet, the Find My app can still help you track it down using the Find My network — hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices around the world. You can set up notifications for when friends and family leave or arrive at a place. They’ll be notified when you set it up, so no one’s privacy is compromised. You can also receive alerts and notifications when your child has arrived at or departed from school.
Everyone’s location data stays private.
Just like every Apple product, Find My is designed to put you in control of your data. Apple receives location information only when you actively locate your device, mark it as lost, or enable Send Last Location. Location data is encrypted on Apple’s servers and kept for no more than 24 hours. And when the Find My network is used, everyone’s information is kept private — even from Apple.

How to
share locations with friends and family
After you set up Find My, you can locate a lost or stolen device, or even help a friend find their missing device. You can also share your location with friends, family, and contacts, ask to follow a friend’s location, or get directions to a friend’s location.
How to turn on Find My for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the Settings app.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Find My.
- If you want friends and family to know where you are, turn on Share My Location.
- Tap Find My [device], then turn on Find My [device].
- To see your device even when it's offline, turn on Enable Offline Finding. To have the location of your device sent to Apple when the battery is low, turn on Send Last Location.
- If you want to be able to find your lost device on a map, make sure that Location Services is turned on. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, and turn on location services.
How to add your AirPods or Apple Watch to Find My
If your AirPods or your Apple Watch are paired with your iPhone, they're automatically set up when you turn on Find My iPhone.
How to turn on Find My for your Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
- Click Security & Privacy, then click the Privacy tab.
- If the padlock in the lower left is locked , click it, then enter the name and password of the administrator.
- Select Location Services.
- Select the Enable Location Services checkbox.
- Next to System Services, click Details.
- Make sure that the checkbox next to Find My Mac is selected.
- Click Done, then return to the main System Preferences window.
- Click Apple ID, then click iCloud.
- Select the checkbox next to Find My Mac.
